The Hidden Gem Fields
Central Province · 140 km from Colombo · ~3.5 hours from Colombo
Located in Sri Lanka's Matale District, Elahara is a well-kept secret among gem insiders. While Ratnapura draws the crowds, Elahara's smaller mine communities produce exceptionally rare stones — most notably colour-change alexandrite, chrysoberyl cat's eye, and fine red spinel. The region's geological profile differs from the southern fields; its highland streams carry minerals eroded from Precambrian pegmatite rocks, creating one of the world's few zones where all three chrysoberyl varieties — alexandrite, cat's eye, and plain chrysoberyl — are found side by side. Access to these fields is controlled and our connections with licensed mine operators allow guests a genuinely exclusive experience.
Actual stones depend on seasonal field activity and current site conditions.
